Step 3. Set Up Service

There are several things that you need to do to set up service after purchasing your contract:

First:

RETRIEVE, SAVE and PRINT a copy of the UDAP Contract from your JMU Email.

If you move to another location and need to transfer your service or if your utilities are disconnected, you will need to provide the utility companies with proof of your contract.

Note: If you do not use your JMU assigned email, it is your responsibility to forward email from your JMU email account to the email account that you use. Refer to JMU's computing Help page if you need instructions on how to set up your JMU account so it forwards to another address. http://www.jmu.edu/computing/email/


Second:

SUBMIT the contract to each desired utility company to set-up service.

You are responsible for ensuring connection and disconnection with each utility company.

Your service may not be connected the same day you sign up for service. Be sure to request service from each utility company at least two weeks before you need service, but not more than 30 days before. Do not wait until the day you need service! We recommend you schedule connection before you leave JMU for the summer.

Your contract is valid until May 31, 2009. The utility companies will disconnect you after this date if you do not purchase another contract or pay a utility deposit. If you should move out before the contract expires, be sure to disconnect service at that address. You can change your address by filling out a change of address form at the UDAP office. You must have copies of your current and former leases to change addresses.

Last:

PAY your bill.

The UDAP charge is included in your student bill. It may take 24 hours, or more, for the charge to appear.

You are now subject to all the terms and conditions that you accepted as part of UDAP membership and you will be billed $35 to your JMU student account within 24 hours. You can view this charge in the Finances section of your account in Ecampus.

This bill will be mailed to your billing address, just like your tuition. If you prefer to pay your bill immediately after it is charged to your account, you have the following options:

  1. CASHIER - Go to Warren 3rd Floor and pay with cash or check.
  2. ONLINE - Make a Credit Card Payment through Ecampus
    • American Express, Discover Card or MasterCard
    • You will be charged a $1.00 convenience fee for this service




After retrieving your contract, setting up service, and paying your bill, you are a full-fledged UDAP member.
